Treating the Information and Communication Technologies in the Offshore Outsourcing Process

In Proceedings of the 17th Annual Conference of the Production and Operations Management Society — 2006
From

Department of Management Engineering, Technical University of Denmark1

A qualitative research, based on 12 in-depth interviews within 12 companies has been conducted in order to explore information and communication technologies’ (ICT) utilisation in outsourcing. Three groups of companies regarding the consideration of ICT in the pre-transition phase, and ICT’s contribution to achieving competitive advantages during the post-transition phase of the outsourcing process have been identified: techno-nerds, anachronists, and indifferents.

We have profiled those companies regarding the barriers, enablers, expectation and surprises they have encountered while utilising ICT in outsourcing.
