We consider here a particular instability, an axis symmetry breaking meniscus instability, that occurs under certain conditions in the transient filament stretching apparatus near the endplates as the plates are separated. Spiegelberg and McKinley [1] investigated this instability development in Boger fluids (dilute solutions of polymers), and here we use a concentrated solution of a polymer as a model fluid for polymeric melts.
