Load shifting for tertiary control power provision

The objective of this work is load shifting of domestic appliances for tertiary reserve provision. Aggregate load curve simulators are built by modelling stochastic consumer behaviour. Analysis is then performed on the number of loads that are required to aggregate in order to provide 5MW tertiary control power to participate in the Swiss ancillary service market.
It is assumed that participants allow the aggregator to delay their loads for certain amount of time, where this delay provides the loads shifting flexibility. This work focuses on shifting usage of white goods as represented by dishwashers and washing machines, which are compared to the usage of heat pumps.
A scheduling strategy is also proposed and evaluated for shifting dishwasher and washing machine group.
