Raman Spectroscopic Study of PCI5-AICI3 Melts
Raman spectra have been recorded from PCl5‐AlCl3 melts containing 30,50,63.7,70,80 and 90 mol% AlCl3, respectively. Raman shifts were identified from the species: PCl5, PCl4,+ AlCl4,− AlCl7− and Al2Cl6. A higher AlxCly−z complex exists in melts with more than 70 mol% AlCl3 and is characterized by Raman shifts of 100, 297 and 395 cm−1.
The relative molar scattering intensities of the strongest MCl stretching vibrations of the melt species have been estimated relative to the intensity of the total symmetric stretching vibration of tetrahedral PCl4+.
