Closed form adaptive effectiveness factor for numerical models
Concrete does not exhibit rigid-plastic behaviour, but it is nevertheless convenient to assume so for practical design and analysis. In order to account for the actual behaviour, a so-called effectiveness factor is introduced, which have been approximated for various standard problems. For general numerical analysis, however, a different approach is needed, where the actual stress and strain fields are taken into account.
Using a recently developed formulation, the implications are analysed for the Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion and a closed-form approximation for use in finite element limit analysis is proposed. The reduced yield surface is compared to the closed-form approximation for various choices of reinforcement layouts.
