CO2 gasification of wheat straw, barley straw, willow and giganteus

From

Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, Technical University of Denmark1

The CO_2-gasification reactivities of chars of four biomass fuels: wheat straw, barley straw, willow and giganteus (elephant grass), have been investigated at 700 - 900 deg. C in a pressurized thermogravimetric analyser in the pressure range 2 - 20 bar. For wheat straw, the variation of reactivity with temperature and gas composition, including the inhibiting effect of CO, was analyzed in terms of the Langmuir-Hinshelwood equation.

Also, the separate effects of total pyrolysis pressure and total gasification pressure were investigated. Finally, the variation in reactivity among the four biomasses under equal gasification conditions was investigated and analyzed on the basis of their chemical compositions. The project has been carried out under the EFP-95 programme for the Danish Ministry of Environment and Energy and for the Danish utility associations Elsam and Elkraft.
