The planned extension of the biochemical factory owned by NOVO Industries A/S at the town of Kalundborg, Denmark, constitutes the background for a model study of Jammerland Bay as a recipient of nutrient rich waste water. The bay water is two layer stratified. A general two layer hydrodynamic and water quality model was set up.

An extensive measurement programme covering hydrographic and water quality parameters has served as source of boundary and verification data for the model. A three month summer period was simulated. Good agreement between measured and computed hydrographic and water quality parameters were obtained.

The model has served for evaluating the ecological response to various loadings of nutrients..
