Thermal annealing in neutron-irradiated tribromobenzenes
The distribution of 82Br among various products in neutron-irradiated isomers of tribromobenzene has been investigated, and the effect of thermal annealing examined. Reversed-phase partition chromatography was employed for the determination of radioactive organic products, and atomic bromine in the crystals was estimated by means of the 1,2-dibromoethylene exchange technique.
The results suggest that, as a consequence of nuclear events, quite a number of different reactions occur whereas the principal annealing reaction is a recombination of atomic bromine with a dibromophenyl radical.
