Microstructural evolution of Ta-4%W during cold rolling
Tantalum alloys are regarded as materials with great potential for challenging environments due to their exceptional mechanical properties, especially at high temperatures. To analyse deformation mechanisms and the relationship between microstructure and strength, characterization of the deformation microstructure of Ta-4%W during cold rolling from 10% to 50% has been carried out by transmission electron microscopy combined with electron backscatter diffraction investigations.
The microstructural evolution of Ta-4%W was found to follow the same general framework as FCC metals (Al, Cu, Ni) and IF steel, with added complexity due to the additional constraints on dislocation motion.
