Preliminary Wind Atlas for Egypt

From

Department of Wind Energy, Technical University of Denmark1

Resource Assessment Modelling, Department of Wind Energy, Technical University of Denmark2

Twenty-five meteorological stations run by the Egyptian Meteorological Authority have been analyzed according to the wind atlas methodology. For each station, time-series of wind speed and direction data covering a 15-year period from 1981 to 1995 have been analyzed to obtain the observed wind climate.

The surroundings of each station have further been described with respect to roughness, sheltering obstacles and elevation variations. Based on these descriptions, the observed wind climates have been transformed to regional wind climates using the WAsP software package. Statistics of the observed and regional wind climates for each station are presented in tables and graphs.

Furthermore, the direction and magnitude of the mean wind vectors, the observed mean wind speeds, the observed Weibull k parameters, the observed mean wind power densities, the modelled mean wind speeds, and the modelled mean wind power densities are presented in overview maps.
