State-of-the-art stimulated Raman scattering spectroscopy and microscopy are currently limited by an intrinsic quantum noise present even in the ideal laser beam, known as shot noise. Quantum resources can be used to enhance the sensitivity in systems that cannot be improved by simply increasing the optical power.

In a quantum-enhanced stimulated Raman scattering setup, the classical probe beam may be replaced for a quantum probe beam, allowing an enhancement in sensitivity beyond the shot noise limit.
