Improving Ion Computed Tomography

Correlation of quantitative dual-energy computed tomography iodine maps and abdominal computed tomography perfusion measurements: are single-acquisition dual-energy computed tomography iodine maps more than a reduced-dose surrogate of conventional computed tomography perfusion? : Are Single-Acquisition Dual-Energy Computed Tomography Iodine Maps More Than a Reduced-Dose Surrogate of Conventional Computed Tomography Perfusion?

Study objectives were the quantitative evaluation of whether conventional abdominal computed tomography (CT) perfusion measurements mathematically correlate with quantitative single-acquisition dual-energy CT (DECT) iodine concentration maps, the determination of the optimum time of acquisition

Computed tomography diagnosis of renal angiomyolipoma

Angiomyolipomas with a high fat content can be diagnosed by CT, thus eliminating the need for angiography. Surgery can then be tailored for maximal renal tissue preservation. One unilateral and two bilateral surgically confirmed cases of renal angiomyolipoma are presented with a typical fourth case in which surgery was cancelled based on the pathognomonic CT findings.

Computed tomography in the evaluation of mediastinal lipomatosis

Mediastinal abnormalities can present a challenging differential diagnosis. One of the many causes of superior mediastinal widening is excess deposition of fat or mediastinal lipomatosis. Mediastinal widening was evaluated by routine chest radiography, conventional tomography, and computed

Computed tomography for staging of oesophageal cancer

Computed tomography (CT) is still widely used in the staging of patients with carcinoma of the oesophagus. The aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of CT in a series of patients with carcinoma of the oesophagus or the cardia. Results were compared with findings at surgery

Image quality and dose in computed tomography

Radiation exposure to the patient during CT is relatively high, and it is therefore important to optimize the dose so that it is as low as possible but still consistent with required diagnostic image quality. There is no established method for measuring diagnostic image quality; therefore, a set of image quality criteria which must be fulfilled for optimal image quality was defined for the retr...

Position emission tomography with or without computed tomography in the primary staging of Hodgkin's lymphoma

In order to receive the most appropriate therapy, patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) must be accurately stratified into different prognostic staging groups. Computed tomography (CT) plays a pivotal role in the conventional staging. The aim of the present study was to investigate the value

Cancer frequency detected by positron emission tomography-computed tomography in limbic encephalitis

Paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis (LE) occurs frequently with considerable variability according to literature reports. We thus determined the cancer frequency in mixed LE subtypes sharing the diagnosis of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). All patients underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain, electroencephalography (EEG) recordings, neuropsychological testing, immunohistochemistry, and clinical examination together with whole body 2-fluor-2-desoxy-d-glucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) to detect cancer in this observatory study. Ninety-three...

Multidetector computed tomography and neuroendocrine pancreaticoduodenal tumors

To investigate the accuracy of dedicated pancreatic multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) in the diagnosis of neuroendocrine pancreaticoduodenal tumors (NPTs). MDCT and other imaging studies in patients with suspected NPTs were identified. Thirty dedicated MDCT studies were done in 23 patients
