Research in the Optics and Fluid Dynamics Department covers plasma physics, fluid dynamics, optics, and neural networks. Plasma physics is concentrated on basic investigations with relevance to fusion plasmas. Both theoretical and experimental work has been performed. Pellet injection systems have been developed.

Within the area of fluid dynamics spectral models for studying the dynamics of coherent structures have been developed. Optical diagnostic methods based an quasi-elastic light scattering have been developed. Beam propagation in random and nonlinear media has been investigated Spatial and temporal processing schemes, especially for pattern recognition, have been investigated.
