A shorted annular air-substrate patch antenna is proposed as a first-order P-band probe for spherical near-field antenna measurements. This antenna is simple to design and manufacture; yet, it has a superior performance in terms of bandwidth, directivity, and gain compared to other types of P-band probes.

This work discusses the electrical and mechanical properties of the antenna and presents simulation results.
