Influence of heat treatment and thermochemical surface engineering on the hierarchical microstructures of 3d printed austenitic stainless steel
This research focuses on characterisation of the hierarchical microstructure of AMmanufactured austenitic stainless steel and the effect of post-processing. The austenitisation treatment is found to dissolve the cellular structure and to reduce hardness, particularly in the layer closest to the support structure.
The effect of substrate on low temperature surface hardening (LSTH) is investigated. It is found that the prior annealing and homogenisation of the austenitised specimen change both the depth of expanded austenite formation and the hardness profile.
