The purpose of this chapter is to summarize a rain penetration test that is intended to assess the extent to which the box of a solar thermal collector is substantially resistant to rain penetration. Testing for rain penetration is of higher priority than all other tests that result in performance degradation of the solar collector.

The rain tightness of the solar collector box is crucial for avoiding severe problems that result from a humid microclimate, which will have a strong negative effect on the durability of the collector. The risk of water penetration is increased when the collector is exposed to both rain and gusts..
