Book chapter
Renewable Energy Resources — Onshore/Offshore Wind Energy
Wind energy is a leading form of renewable energy, with developments historically onshore only and now moving offshore in the form of gigantic wind farms having nominal capacities equivalent to that of nuclear reactors. The energy production originates from the wind, while being affected by other meteorological variables, either directly (e.g., air density) or indirectly as for the case of waves and sea ice affecting accessibility of offshore wind farms.
The reasons for the climate vulnerability of wind energy are introduced, as well as the technological and policy-related context..
