The two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) discovered at the interface between two oxide insulators provides a new opportunity for electronics and mesoscopic physics. Herein, we reviewed the recent progress in understanding the origin of interface conduction as well as the development in the material systems of 2DEG at complex oxide interfaces, with a particular focus on systems of high electron mobilities based on SrTiO3.

Furthermore, we have also introduced the band-structure engineering of modulation-doping at complex oxide interfaces, which continuously lead to new horizons of material sciences and condensed matter physics..
