In this work the feasibility of joining TRIP steel by Friction Stir Spot Welding is investigated. The aim is to produce successful welds and to get a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms occurring in the microstructure during welding. One of the primary parameters in Friction Stir Spot Welding is the rotational speed, and the effect of this parameter is investigated by applying three different rotational speeds.

Microhardness measurements and lab-shear testing have been applied to evaluate the quality of the welds. The microstructure of the welded samples is characterized by reflected light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.
