Coulomb drag in multiwall armchair carbon nanotubes

From

Department of Micro- and Nanotechnology, Technical University of Denmark1

We calculate the transresistivity rho(21) between two concentric armchair nanotubes in a diffusive multiwall carbon nanotube as a function of temperature T and Fermi level epsilon(F). We approximate the tight-binding band structure by two crossing bands with a linear dispersion near the Fermi surface.

The cylindrical geometry of the nanotubes and the different parities of the Bloch states are accounted for in the evaluation of the effective Coulomb interaction between charges in the concentric nanotubes. We find a broad peak in rho(21) as a function of temperature at roughly T similar to 0.4T(F).

Further, we predict a peak in rho(21) as a function of epsilon(F), which can be studied experimentally by changing a gate voltage or by doping.
