Reducing Statistical Noise in Airborne Gamma-Ray Data: through Spectral Component Analysis

In Proceedings of Exploration 97 — 1997, pp. 753-764
From

Department of Automation, Technical University of Denmark1

By using the Noise Adjusted Singular Value Decomposition (NASVD) technique it is possible to reconstruct the measured airborne gamma-ray spectra with a noise content that is significant smaller than the noise contained in the original measured spectra. The method can be used for improving the output of the data processing for example mapping of Th, U, and K distribution.
