The effect of extended periodic inspection of passenger cars and vans

The purpose of this note is to perform a calculation of the costs and benefits of extended period-ic inspection of passenger cars and vans in Denmark, provided that the first inspection of pas-senger cars and vans is performed after four years, then one inspection after two years and thereafter annually (4,2,1,1…) as described in the proposal of the European Commission for a “Roadworthiness Package on extended periodic inspection, proposal for regulation No. 380”.

Furthermore, the note contains a technical review of the calculations in the “Autofore report” of the baseline scenario of an older proposal according to which the periodic inspections were to be performed after four years, then after two years, then after another two years and thereafter annually (4,2,2,1,1…).

This means that our baseline scenario will include one additional inspec-tion (in year 7) as compared to the baseline scenario of the “Autofore report”. However, the ”Au-tofore report” includes sensitivity calculations for alternative starting years for the annual period-ic inspections, including our baseline scenario.

The review examines the assumptions in the ”Autofore report” referred to by the Commission and evaluates the robustness of the Danish assumptions
