A Conspiracy of Oscillators

Abstract
We discuss nonlinear mechanical systems containing several oscillators whose frequecies are all much higher than frequencies associated with the remaining degrees of freedom. In this situation a near constant of the motion, an adiabatic invariant, exists which is the sum of all the oscillator actions.
The phenomenon is illustrated, and calculations of the small change of the adiabatic invariant is outlined.
