The electrochemical reduction of nitrous oxide and oxygen has been studied on cone-shaped electrodes of La1-xSrxFeO3-delta perovskites in an all solid state cell, using cyclic voltammetry. It was shown that the activity of the La1-xSrxFeO3-delta perovskites for the electrochemical reduction of nitrous oxide mainly depends on the amount of Fe(III) and oxide ion vacancies.

The activity of the La1-xSrxFeO3-delta perovskites towards the electrochemical reduction of nitrous oxide is much lower than the activity of the La1-xSrxFeO3-delta perovskites towards the electrochemical reduction of oxygen, making the possibility of electrochemically reducing nitrous oxide selectively in an exhaust gas containing excess oxygen on this type of materials very doubtful.
