Production of Cyclomaltononaose (δ-Cyclodextrin) by Various Cyclodextrin Glycosyltransferases
The conversion of soluble starch to cyclomaltohexaose (α-CD), cyclomaltoheptaose (ß-CD), cyclomaltooctaose (γ-CD) and cyclomaltononaose (δ-CD) by crude preparations of cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (EC 2.4.1.19) (CGTases) from Bacillus spp. and bacterial isolates was studied. δ-CD was produced by all CGTases investigated in the range of 5 to 11.5 % of the total amount of α-, ß-, γ-, and δ-CD produced, decreasing to 3 to 7 % after prolonged incubation.
A CGTase from Paenibacillus sp. F8 was purified and characterised. Coupling experiments with Paenibacillus sp. F8 CGTase showed that δ-CD was more easily degraded than α-, ß-, and γ-CD.
