Niels G. Mortensen, senior scientist at Risø National Laboratory, Technical University of Denmark Risø has added virtual globe synchronization to its wind resource assessment and siting software WAsP. While this is not 'rocket science', it has proven to be an extremely powerful tool for wind farm developers and wind power consultants; providing almost instant quality assurance for some of the most critical input data to the wind flow and wind farm modelling.

WAsP software WAsP is a PC program for the analysis of wind data, wind atlas generation, wind resource assessment, wind resource mapping, and the siting of wind turbines and wind farms. The program, which was released in the mid 1980's is continually being updated and developed by the Wind Energy. Division at Risø DTU.

Over the years, it has become well established and it is regarded by many as the industry standard for wind resource assessment and siting of wind farms. Today, WAsP has been employed by over 3000 users in more than 110 countries and territories around the world. It is used by wind turbine manufacturers and other companies and consultants in the wind power industry as well as universities, research institutions and meteorological services.
