The strain parameters which are relevant in a tensile experiment, are analysed and related to the geometry of deformation and to the mean stress of two-phase materials. The hardening rate of the mean stress with respect to plastic strain is found to be useful in comparison between experiments and theories, and it allows theories to be probed over a range of strains.
Previous experiments on the fibre-reinforced material of copper-tungsten are analysed in relation to the geometry of deformation.
