Resolution of a triple axis spectrometer
A new method for obtaining the resolution function for a triple-axis neutron spectrometer is described, involving a combination of direct measurement and analytical calculation. All factors which contribute to the finite resolution of the instrument may be taken into account, and Gaussian or experimentally determined probability distributions may be used.
The application to the study of the dispersion relation for excitations in a crystal is outlined
