Surface charge measurement using an electrostatic probe
During the 1960s, the first measurements of charge on dielectric surfaces using simple electrostatic probes were reported. However it is only within the last 10 years that a proper understanding of the probe response has been developed. This situation arose as a consequence of the earlier studies adopting a purely circuit theory approach in an attempt to solve a quite complex field problem.
A field problem of this nature can only be addressed correctly through a field theoretical approach. Such an approach is discussed in the present paper.
