Window prototype investigations: Rim seal construction

Schultz, Jørgen Munthe

Development and Investigation of Evacuated Windows Based on Monolithic Silica Aerogel Spacers — 1996

This chapter describes the requirements to be set for a proper rim seal construction for aerogel glazings and includes theoretically parameter analyses of thermal bridge effect, water vapour diffusion and gas diffusion through the rim seal. Different ideas for rim seal solutions are described.

Window prototype investigations: Frames for superinsulating windows

Schultz, Jørgen Munthe

Development and Investigation of Evacuated Windows Based on Monolithic Silica Xerogel Spacers — 1996

In case of highly insulating glazings the frame construction becomes the thermally weak part of the construction. The heat flow in window frames are analysed and based on the results a thermally improved frame construction is described.

Window prototype investigations: Evacuation and assembling techniques

Schultz, Jørgen Munthe; Büttner, D.

Development and Investigation of Evacuated Windows Based on Monolithic Silica Aerogel Spacers — 1996

Two different ways exists for evacuation of aerogel glazings: 1) evacuation after assembling by means of built-in evacuation valves or 2) evacuation during assembling in a vacuum chamber. Both methods are described as well as the evcuation theory for highly porous materials. Calculated evacuation times related to the two methods are shown and compared to observations.

Window prototype investigations: Measurement of thermal parameters for aerogel/xerogel windows

Jensen, Karsten Ingerslev; Schultz, Jørgen Munthe

Development and Investigation of Evacuated Windows Based on Monolithic Silica Aerogel Spacers — 1996

Measurement techniques and equipment for measurement of heat loss coefficients and solar energy transmittance both on laboratory level and under real climatic conditions are described as well as the European PASSYS test method.
