After illustrating the environmental impact of human actvities, the population section in the report Limits to Growth (1972) is outlined. Then the equation for env. impact: I = P*A*T, where P is population, A is affluence and T is the technological factor, the importance of growing human population relative to the decline in population of wild animal is stressed.

Human population densities in various regions and nations are shown, as is how the global population in 2150 would be 11, 27, and 4 billions with respectively 2.1, 2.6, and 1.6 birth per woman from now. Dynamic of pop. dev. is illustrated by various pop. pyramids. The achievement of China's pop. policy is discussed, and so is the various options for why the pop. dev. has been a taboo in the environmental debate
