This work investigates the structural and the magnetic properties of Gd/Fe multilayered thin films grown by pulsed laser deposition onto Si (001) substrates at room temperature. he Fe layer thickness is varied from 70 to 150 nm and its effect on the structural and magnetic properties of Fe/Gd/Fe sandwich multilayers has been explored.

Gd films were found to change from amorphous to polycrystalline at a critical thickness of 20 nm.
