A reaming operation had to be performed within given technological and economical constraints. Process improvement under realistic conditions was the goal of a statistical engineering project, supported by a comprehensive experimental investigation providing detailed information on single and combined effects of several parameters on key responses.

Results supported selection of production parameters meeting specified quality and cost targets, as well as substantial improvements.
