Modeling and Control for Islanding Operation of Active Distribution Systems
Along with the increasing penetration of distributed generation (DG) in distribution systems, there are more resources for system operators to improve the operation and control of the whole system and enhance the reliability of electricity supply to customers. The distribution systems with DG are able to operate in is-landing operation mode intentionally or unintentionally.
In order to smooth the transition from grid connected operation to islanding operation for distribution systems with DG, a multi-agent based controller is proposed to utilize different re-sources in the distribution systems to stabilize the frequency. Different agents are defined to represent different resources in the distribution systems.
A test platform with a real time digital simulator (RTDS), an OPen Connectivity (OPC) protocol server and the multi-agent based intelligent controller is established to test the proposed multi-agent based frequency controller. The modeling of different DG is discussed in details. Two distribution systems with DG are used to carry out case studies to illustrate the proposed multi-agent controller.
