The study of lower oxidation states of post-transition elements in molten salts is a fascinating area which has been enlarged considerably in recent years (1). The investigation of the homolog series of the chalcogens (S, Se, Te, Po) has proven a very interesting field. Many especially interesting chemical features of these elements involve their ability to catenate (i.e. form chains) and in certain cases to give ring structures.
