Easetech Energy: Advanced Life Cycle Assessment of Energy from Biomass and Waste
SUMMARY: Biomass and waste are expected to play a key role in future energy systems based on large shares of renewable energy resources. The LCA model EASETECH Energy was developed specifically for modelling large and complex energy systems including various technologies and several processing steps.
The model allows simultaneous balancing of mass and energy flows of the system under assessment, and is equipped with advanced tools for sensitivity/uncertainty analysis. EASETECH Energy was used to assess the environmental footprint of the Danish energy system in 2050 (based on 100% renewables) and compare it to the current situation.
The results show that the future Danish energy systems will have a rather different environmental footprint than the current one.
