Thermodynamic Modelling of Surfactant Solutions

Cheng, Hongyuan

Technical University of Denmark — 2004

In this work, the key physical properties of non-ionic and ionic surfactant solutions, such as the critical micelle concentration (CMC) and the octanol-water partition coefficient (Kow), are studied by molecular thermodynamic methods based on UNIFAC. The mean activity coefficients of the aqueous electrolyte and organic electrolyte solutions are modelled by a modified Achard’s UNIFAC model proposed in this work. Some of important properties in the surfactant solutions, such as the hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB), the Krafft point (KP), the cloud point (CP), the aggregation number (ng), ...

Synergistic effect between amino sulfonate amphoteric surfactant and octylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (10) in aqueous solutions with different acidicities: consideration of different thermodynamic models : Synergistic effect between amino sulfonate amphoteric surfactant

spectroscopy using pyrene as a probe and by tensiometry. Within the framework of the pseudophase separation model, four thermodynamic models were adopted to describe the micellization parameters including the interaction parameters (β12) between two surfactants, the components in real and ideal mixed micelles
