Polarization holography

Nikolova, L.; Ramanujam, P.S.

Cambridge University Press — 2009

Current research into holography is concerned with applications in optically storing, retrieving, and processing information. Polarization holography has many unique properties compared to conventional holography. It gives results in high efficiency, achromaticity, and special polarization

Polarization Holography: Properties, Registration Materials and Applications

The use of photoanisotropic materials for holographic recording was first proposed by Kakichashvilil in order to registrate and reconstruct the light wave polarization (polarization holography). In this paper we have made a review of the original investigations on polarization holography carried

Polarization holography for measuring photoinduced optical anisotropy

A new experimental method for measuring the optical anisotropy induced at photochemical reactions is proposed. The method is based on polarization holography and is a zero-background high sensitive technique. It is used to measure the molecular dichroism of fluorescein and the birefrigence induced

Photoinduced anisotropy in rigid dye solutions for transient polarization holography

The characteristics of rigid solutions of organic dyes suitable for holographic recording-fluorescein/orthoboric acid, methyl red/polymethylmetacrylate, and methyl orange/polyvinylalcohol-are investigated. All of the three systems allow real-time recording and do not exhibit fatigue up to more than 104cycles of recording erasure. The system fluorescein/orthoboric acid possesses a faster response time than the other two systems-around 0.1 s. The phase character of the recording in the system methyl orange/polyvinylalcohol explains the high diffraction efficiency-up to 35 percent-i...

In-line and off-axis polarization-selective holographic lenses recorded in azopolymer thin films via polarization holography and polarization multiplexing

Polarization-selective diffractive in-line and off-axis lenses are recorded in azopolymer thin films using polarization holography. A simple, yet efficient, and to the best of our knowledge, new method is used to suppress the surface relief grating formation and to improve the polarization

Polarization holography. 1: A new high-efficiency organic material with reversible photoinduced birefringence

A new organic material for polarization holographic recording--azo-dye methyl-orange, introduced in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)--is fabricated and investigated. It possesses all the good characteristics of the known polarization-sensitive materials--high sensitivity, reversibility, etc.--but excels
